The physical format of this book is about 102mm wide by 195mm high by 35mm
thick (the cover above is just a wrapper for part of the book), and so it cannot be called
a pocket guide though it's the closest I've found yet. The cover is plastic and so it
should stand up to rough treatment. The book is in four sections. The first is a
biogeographical essay on Africa. The second is a large section of quality colour
photographs. The third section is a brief description of the African mammals and birds in
useful depth, with token sections on reptiles and insects (only 3 species). The final
section are appendices including a comprehensive glossary.
The book does have a giveaway to its American origins in a comment that
they believe 'sport' shooting would be beneficial in Kenya as it would help protect
against poaching.
